The 35th Annual Desert Golf Classic, which was held on September 18, 2017, at the Inn at St. John’s Golf and Conference Center in Plymouth, Michigan, funds the Desert Formation Experience, a thirty-day spiritual pilgrimage first-year graduate seminarians make each year to the Holy Land.

Important Change in Format

Planning has begun for the 35th Annual Desert Golf Classic, and Sacred Heart’s event team is focusing on making the outing enjoyable for all of our golfing guests. We have been taking all of your feedback—positive and negative—into consideration.

As such, please be aware of this change to the team format for the 2017 Desert Golf Classic.

Rather than the usual five players on a team, we are now transitioning to the more standard format of the traditional foursome. A priest may still serve as team captain—but we ask that he now golfs with three team members. The eighteen-hole scramble remains the format.

Why have we made this change? Golfers have told us repeatedly, in our surveys and through word of mouth, that the four-person team will speed up the pace of play and make the outing more fun for all.

Change takes time, though, so . . . if you are accustomed fielding a five person team, please know that you are still welcome to do so for the 2017 Desert Golf Classic. As this new format is phased in, teams with five players will take turns and only four players will hit drives and subsequent shots and putts.

Thank you so much for your loyal support of the Desert Golf Classic and the spiritual formation of the seminarians of Sacred Heart—your future priests.

Each year, Sacred Heart Major Seminary gathers friends and golfers for an exciting golf outing. I am pleased to invite you to participate in the 35th Annual Desert Golf Classic. It will be held on September 18, 2017, at the beautiful Inn at St. John’s Golf and Conference Center, in Plymouth, Michigan.

For over three decades now, you and many others have supported this golf outing that helps to fund a unique feature of our priestly formation program, the Desert Formation Experience. Your generosity provides seminarians the opportunity for an intensive thirty-day spiritual pilgrimage, walking and praying in the very land where Jesus walked, taught and worked his miracles.

The day’s golf is followed by a reception and an excellent dinner, giving you time to relax and compare scores with other players. The evening is topped off with an award presentation and the distribution of prizes.

On behalf of our seminarians, thank you for your support of the Desert Classic. Let’s pray for great weather! With prayerful best wishes, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Rev. Msgr. Todd J. Lajiness

Desert Golf Classic 2017 Highlights

Sacred Heart Major Seminary

Forming Hearts and Minds. Proclaiming Jesus Christ.

The mission of Sacred Heart Major Seminary is simple and compelling: to educate and form priests, deacons, and lay ministers to be leaders of the new evangelization of our increasingly secularized world.

Sacred Heart’s students are formed by highly-credentialed instructors who teach according to the mind of the Church. Students are inspired by the example of the Good Shepherd and the surrounding urban environment to answer the call to serve human needs. Called into a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ, students are thereby prepared to assist others into that same intimate friendship.
